Abstract

Grounded in the Freudian perspective, the objective of the study was to evaluate the relationship between childhood trauma and workplace loneliness among young adults in the cultural context of Pakistan. The study used a cross-sectional correlational research design to examine the relationship among the variables and a purposive sampling technique to collect data from young adults aged 24 to 30 years, with a minimum qualification of a bachelor’s degree and at least one year of work experience in either public- or private-sector organizations in Pakistan. Data were collected from three cities in Pakistan, namely Lahore, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. Out of 240 young adults, 202 completed the questionnaires, yielding a response rate of 84.2%. The study utilized standardized instruments to measure the variables. The correlational analysis revealed a significant relationship between childhood trauma and workplace loneliness. Furthermore, regression analysis confirmed that childhood trauma significantly predicted workplace loneliness among young adults. The study highlighted the detrimental association between childhood trauma and workplace loneliness among young adults. Both practical and theoretical implications are also provided for the welfare of the community.
