Abstract

Parenting stress is a significant psychological challenge that influences parents' emotional well-being, parenting practices, and the quality of interactions with their children. Elevated stress levels may reduce parental responsiveness, warmth, and effective communication, thereby affecting the overall parent–child relationship. Understanding this association is essential for promoting healthy family functioning and positive child development. This study aimed to examine the effect of parenting stress on parent–child relationships and to determine the extent to which parenting stress predicts the quality of these relationships. A quantitative, correlational research design was employed. Data were collected from 100 parents using standardized self-report questionnaires measuring parenting stress and parent–child relationship quality. Participants were selected through a convenient sampling technique. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationship between parenting stress and parent–child relationships. The findings indicated a significant negative relationship between parenting stress and the quality of parent–child relationships. The study concludes that parenting stress poorly affects parent–child relationships. Reducing parenting stress through psychological support, parenting education, stress management programs, and family-based interventions may strengthen parent–child interactions and promote healthier family environments.
